Sudhira Devi and her husband Chandra Kumar has been practicing this Sikki grass craft together around 25 years and both of them have been honoured by National Award for their excellence in master craftsmanship. Sikka grass art is the pride of Chandra Kumar family as their two sons and two daughters, along with his mother all are engaged in making handicrafts of Sikki grass.

Sikki grass crafts are various handicrafts that are made from a special kind of grass known as Sikki found in Bihar. The art of making items from sikki grass is an ancient one in the province of Bihar. Sikki is dried and the flower head is cut off. The result fine golden fiber is used in weaving to make toys, dolls, and baskets.

The grass has served as a vital raw material in making of a variety of products since ancient times. The craft of Sikki weaving has its root in traditional beliefs of Indian value system, yet it is a perfect example of sustainability in contemporary times.

According to Chandra Kumar and Sudhira Devi the Sikki grass products are not very expensive, they are lightweight, organic, biodegradable and last, just as long as you would like them around.
